Do you like my focus in the title? Why is it there, you ask? Because the only things I really did to 'makeover' my bedroom was change the wall art above the bed, change the bed, and move some trinkets around.
But the end result? Fantastic. Or at least a little more grown-up and puffy, which I like better.
Tutorials on some of the things that I did to get from the Before to the After are still to come, but read below for details!
Update: you can see how I made the Fabric-Covered Canvas hanging on the wall here, and the Tailored Bed Skirt tutorial here.

"But you've only changed the bed and bedding!", you say.
Well I say HA! Isn't that the most important part?
I mean, LOOK AT IT. I feel so fancy and calm and relaxed every time I walk in here now. And when I sleep? It's like being in a hotel. While I'm sure that I will get used to it eventually, I put too much work into that sham body pillow cover, those three throw pillows, that mini gallery wall, and the tailored bed skirt to scorn my mini-makeover or being just about the bed.
Plus, just look at the before and after pictures. I mean, really look at them. The space looks different.
You don't need to spend $5000 and three weeks on painting walls, buying an expensive matching furniture set, putting down new flooring, or buying a vintage art piece. Even for the DIY ethusiast who will without a doubt save money on all of the above, find amazing Craigslist items to upcycle, paint his- or herself, and even redo the floor his- or herself, you don't strictly need to do any of that.
Change one thing, one wall, one section. For me, it was my bed wall. The art hanging above it, the bed itself, the bedding, the arrangement on the side tables.
Do I still feel like I need to adjust the rest of the room? A little. But am I extremely excited about how a few tweaks completely changed my space? HECK YES!

So what did I actually do?
I bought a new Queen bed set to replace my Double bed set donated to me from a Church about 6 years ago. The mattress quality doesn't get much lower than my dearly departed Double bed unless you are sleeping on the floor. Now, I could not have asked for more at the time and I was thrilled to have a bed at all, but I am so thankful that now I am able to update (and that I have upgraded!)
I bought a lovely crisp white sheet set with an extra matching set of pillow cases (IKEA GĂ„SPA Queen Sheet set; IKEA DVALA Queen Pillowcases).
I made a DIY Sham Pillow cover for the body pillow that I use at the back (I'm not sure how that started, but I think it looks nice).
I similarly made three throw pillows for the front. One being an oddly squared lumbar pillow made up of a folded up piece of foam that I had laying around. Don't ask. Now I say that I made the pillows and not simply the pillow covers because I actually did both. Tutorial on that tidbit in the future, but basically just re-use old flat pillow stuffing or chop up old foam bits.
I reorganized things. I donated a ton of clothes that I never wore and old costume jewelry which I grew out of (more big-girl upgrades yay!). I got rid of general junk, relocated certain items to better areas in the apartment, and changed the side table setups.
And last but not in any way the least, I made a box-pleated or 'tailored' bed skirt.

Little things? Definitely. Important things? To me, definitely.
The greatest expense to me was the Queen bed set and the appropriate Queen sheet set. I purchased the mattress and split box spring set during an online flash sale at The Bay and bought a suitable adjustable metal bed frame for it as well. In total -- with all taxes deliveries, a warranty, and a mattress cover -- I spent just under $800 for the mattress set and bed frame. There are probably better deals in the world, but I felt like I found a pretty good one. The sheet set and extra pillowcases came to about $50 after taxes or something like that. So $850 total for a new bed.
The fabrics for the body pillow sham and the throw pillows I already had on hand and were a thick striped fabric and simple canvas painter's drop cloth.
The bed skirt I needed more material than I had on hand, so I went out and bought a new canvas drop cloth for about $17.
The fabric for the canvas, the canvas itself, and the frames for the mini gallery wall were all things I had around the apartment and relocated or re-purposed. Same goes for what is inside the frames.
So for a $850 'investment' which I plan to make good use of almost every day for the next 10 years, a $17 cash drop into fabrics, a week of patiently waiting for furniture delivery, and one day of fiddling with old frames, canvases, and fabrics... I am pretty pleased with my makeover.
Are you? Do you have similar mini-makeovers that you are proud of? Let me know!
